One of the greatest things about being a yacht captain in the Bahamas is that there are still places that feel untouched. In a world where almost everything seems documented, photographed, reviewed, and shared online, there are still corners of the Out Islands that make you feel like you have discovered something for yourself.

That feeling is becoming harder to find these days. Maybe that is why it means so much when you do.

Most visitors to the Bahamas know the popular destinations. Places like Nassau and Paradise Island attract attention for good reason. They are beautiful and offer plenty to do.

The farther you travel from the major hubs, the more the pace begins to change. The traffic disappears. The water seems even clearer. The days feel longer.

One of my favorite things about cruising the Out Islands is finding stretches of beach where there is nobody else around.

You can drop anchor, take the tender ashore, and walk for what feels like miles without seeing another person.

Many of the places I enjoy most in the Out Islands have limited distractions.

The longer I spend cruising the Out Islands, the more I appreciate what they teach.
